GB Facilities Services Helps Maintain Morden Station During Its Centenary Year
100 years of Morden Underground Station – maintaining a London landmark for the next chapter
September 2026 marks an important milestone for Morden and London’s transport history, as Morden Underground Station celebrates its 100th anniversary.
The Northern line extension to Morden opened on 13 September 1926, bringing the Underground further into south London and connecting communities including Clapham South, Balham, Tooting, Colliers Wood, South Wimbledon and Morden.
The seven stations on the extension were designed by renowned architect Charles Holden, whose distinctive designs went on to influence the identity of London Underground architecture. A century later, Morden remains a major transport hub, with Transport for London reporting more than 25,000 entries and exits on most weekdays. Transport for London
To mark the centenary, Transport for London and the London Borough of Merton have celebrated the station’s history and its importance to the local community, including a special event at Morden Station and Morden Library on 12 September featuring heritage displays, archive photography, activities and a treasure hunt along the historic Northern line extension. Maintaining a busy public environment
Against this historic backdrop, GB Facilities Services Ltd recently completed specialist jet-washing works around Morden Underground Station, helping to clean and maintain the external pedestrian areas surrounding this busy transport location.
Public transport environments present their own facilities management challenges. With thousands of passengers, pedestrians and local residents using the area, works need to be delivered efficiently and with consideration for the people, businesses and transport services operating around them.
Our team carried out jet washing to the designated external areas, removing accumulated surface dirt and restoring a cleaner appearance to the paving.
