As part of the ‘Design Your Life’ campaign Samsung appointed Jack Morton Worldwide (UK) to create pop-up space in London’s busy Portobello Road, W11.
This temporary commission launched on the 18th October 2013 and ran until 24th November 2013. Graffiti Busters were delighted to be awarded the exterior phase of works on this turnkey project that included interior fit out, and M&E.
To ensure our processes were suitable for this listed building the organisers wanted to establish whether the artist’s exhibits could be applied without damage to the walls and then removed safely. Following extensive testing and planning we recommended that the best solution was to use a sacrificial anti-graffiti coating; working of scaffold this was installed to the walls acting as an invisible layer before the artwork to mitigate any potential damage or ingress. This together allowed the artwork and coating to be removed effectively using thermatech superheated water cleaning equipment and non-toxic, biodegradable paint stripping products.
Working to tight deadlines Graffiti Busters managed to remove all the paint and re-decorate the windows in under a week. Allowing minimal disruption to public, residents and local trade.
In addition, to the pop-up retail space Samsung worked with eight retailers on Portobello Road to integrate the devices into their businesses.
